Prostitution in New Hampshire
Two progressive bills were introduced in New Hampshire in recent sessions, both of which are discussed below.
HB 1614, sponsored by former Rep. Elizabeth Edwards (D), was introduced in 2016 and would have legalized consensual sex between consenting adults and made any solicitation of sexual contact involving a person under 18 years of age or through the use of force or intimidation a felony. This bill did not pass, but there was a public hearing in 2016 that can be viewed at the link here.
HB 287, also sponsored by former Rep. Elizabeth Edwards (D), was introduced in 2017 and would have established a committee to study the impact of decriminalizing prostitution. The bill passed the House, but ultimately did not pass the Senate and was opposed by Governor Sununu.
