Safe Sex Work Vermont Hosts Policy Briefing in Burlington With Freedom Network USA

July 28, 2026

This month, Safe Sex Work Vermont hosted a policy-focused event in Burlington, Vermont. Safe Sex Work Vermont (SSWV) is a coalition dedicated to improving the health and safety of sex workers, trafficking survivors, and communities across Vermont. The event, titled A Policy Briefing on Trafficking, Sex Work, and What the Evidence Shows, was free, open to the public, and brought together advocates, policymakers, and community members for an evidence-based discussion.

Freedom Network USA, the nation's largest anti-trafficking coalition, partnered with SSWV by providing Associate Policy Manager Emma Ecker to lead the briefing. The event was also co-hosted by the Vermont Workers' Center, Vermont Harm Reduction Advocates, People's Health & Wellness Clinic, ACLU of Vermont, and the Vermont Association for Mental Health & Addiction Recovery.

The event saw a strong turnout, with attendees including elected officials, local anti-trafficking and domestic violence organizations, advocates, and other community members committed to improving the rights, health, and safety of trafficking survivors and sex workers in Vermont. Conversations after the event reflected a deep appreciation for creating space to discuss these issues locally, as well as excitement for future collaborations and continued dialogue.
